Theatre for a Change Malawi is seeking a Finance Manager to join our team in Lilongwe. In this pivotal role, you will lead our finance team, provide strategic and operational financial leadership, and ensure the organisation’s growth, sustainability, and compliance.

About Theatre for a Change Malawi

 

Established in 2007 as a Malawian NGO, Theatre for a Change envisions an equal world where everyone has choice and control over their bodies and can use their voices freely and without fear.

 

Our mission is to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls who have been marginalised, using participatory learning and drama.

Key Responsibilities

 

  1. Leadership Team

    • Actively engage as a leader within the organisation, supporting its management, growth, and well-being.

    • Role model the organisation’s values and contribute to a positive and inclusive work culture.

  2. Financial Sustainability and Strategy

    • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to plan for the future financial sustainability and growth of the organisation.

    • Provide strategic insights and develop long-term financial plans aligned with organisational objectives.

  3. Risk and Resource Management

    • Manage cash flow, financial planning, and risk management strategies.

    • Optimize resource allocation to meet organisational objectives and ensure sustainability.

  4. Management and Implementation of the Finance Cycle

    • Ensure the Finance Cycle is delivered on time each month, maintaining accuracy and reliability in financial reporting.

    • Oversee the monthly financial close process, ensuring compliance with internal controls and timelines.

  5. Internal Controls

    • Ensure all staff adhere to the organisation’s Finance Policy and Procedures at all times.

    • Develop and monitor internal control systems to safeguard assets and maintain financial integrity.

  6. Internal and External Reporting

    • Prepare and deliver accurate financial reports on time, tailored to organisational needs and donor-specific formats.

    • Support external audits and ensure compliance with all donor and regulatory requirements.

  7. People Management

    • Lead, mentor, and empower the finance team to achieve their full potential and meet their targets.

    • Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment that values professional growth and accountability.

 

What We’re Looking For

 

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Certified accountant with CPA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification.

  • Proven experience working with non-profit organizations in Malawi.

  • Proficiency in using QuickBooks Online for financial management and reporting.

  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations and accounting principles.

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

 

Desirable Attributes:

  • Commitment to working with women and girls and passion for Theatre for a Change’s mission and vision.

  • Experience in fundraising and managing donor relationships.

  • Familiarity with donor-specific reporting requirements.

  • A strategic mindset with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
